TaxACT 2007 Standard is a completely free federal tax filing program that can handle complicated returns and has no costs whatsoever (for federal, you have to pay for State, just like with TurboTax, but the state is way cheaper than TT).

TaxAct is a great software and is definitely cheaper than Turbo Tax.

But Turbo Tax is the leader in this domain. Since the Federal filing is FREE, it might be worth to give it a shot.

Next we can use a state's official website to file the state returns (ProfessorB's tip)!

That would make filing taxes completely FREE (unless we have complicated stuff which needs specialized packages)!
