The Market Madness game has ended.

SmartMoney magazine, the Wall Street Journal magazine of personal business is hosting a new online game about stocks so that we can enjoy the art of investing. It's called "Market Madness Stock-Picking Tournament," where players can compete for a chance to win $10,000.

Here's how it works:

64 stocks will go head-to-head over six rounds. In each match, the stock that experiences the larger percentage gain (or, if neither gain, lower percentage loss) by the end of the trading day advances to the next round until only one remains.

Players, who can make their selections and fill out their brackets prior to the tournament kick-off on March 20th, will receive points for every winning pick. The player with the most points at the end wins the game. Now's the time to register and fill out the brackets. To get in the game, visit www.smartmoney.com/marketmadness. Maybe you will be the one to win the $10,000!

Updates:

12th March 2008

To clear the confusion regarding the prize money (being cash or a discount towards a car lease) we had written to Nathan Christopher who is the Associate Director of PR for the SmartMoney magazine. We quote his reply:

"Good morning,

Thanks for your e-mail and for checking on the terms of the contest.
The prize is $10,000 cash, which can be used toward a Nissan if the winner so chooses. Nissan is a sponsor of the contest but there's no obligation to use it toward the car.

Hope that clears things up."

It appears that the prize of $10000 is not cash :( (see the figure). The money can be put towards a lease on a All New 2009 Nissan Murano. Prizes are subject to the terms and conditions of the contest.

The exact words for the prize from the contest's rules says:

"The Grand Prize winner will receive USD$10,000 which may be used towards payment on a car lease. The Grand Prize will be awarded as a check made payable to the Grand Prize winner. Only one Grand Prize will be awarded."
