Nov 07, 2013: October is the tenth month in the Gregorian and eight in the Roman calendar. In Latin, "octo" means eight. When January and February were added to the Gregorian calendar this month retained its name as October (from the Roman calendar). It is a month of seasonal contrasts. In the northern hemisphere we celebrate autumn while in the southern hemisphere people rejoice the arrival of spring in this month. The flower of this month is calendula or marigold.
