Jan09 - Top 100 Personal Finance Blogs - Ranked By Traffic

Updated on Jan 22, 2009: We wish you a great new year ahead :). Welcome back to our rankings of personal finance (pf) blogs for January 2009 based on traffic data of December 2008.

Jan 24, 2009 (4:00 am): We had to publish this month's rankings three times due to discrepancies in data from Quantcast. Perhaps their new model of tracking traffic has not yet stabilized.

Initially we generated the rankings using the metric "People/Month" from Quantcast. Upon investigation we found that this metric was way off from similar ones offered by Google Analytics, SiteMeter and Compete.

Next, we regenerated the rankings with the "PageViews/Month" metric from Quantcast since this was slightly more accurate wrt similar metrics from other tracking companies. Unfortunately, there were glitches on Quantcast's side. For several of the top blogs, Quantcast simply did not display any data for this metric! Perhaps it'd be useful for site owners to let them know about it.

So we had to redo the rankings once again with the "Visits/Months" metric from Quantcast. Though most of the top 100 pf blogs did have data for this metric, there are a handful for whom this data is not being displayed by Quantcast. Please make sure that in your account's settings you have the following option enabled:

• Show Traffic Data Using -> Direct Measurement

However not all is well with Quantcast. There is still some goofy stuff. For example: The data for the blog "A Frugal Living" shows that it had 714 visits in the month while the number of visitors for the month were 2453! This is logically incorrect :).

As you may have noticed, there are some discrepancies in Quantcast and Compete's results. This may be due to the fact that many sites have not implemented requisite trackers and plugins (details are here). It makes sense to go through with the implementations to make this game an even playing field.


The following tables show traffic rankings of individual and group personal finance blogs respectively based on monthly traffic data (Dec 2008) from corresponding sources.
